JAKARTA – The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has extended his profound condolences to the Indonesian government regarding the severe floods and landslides that have recently devastated parts of Sumatra Island. Pezeshkian also confirmed Iran’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the Sumatra floods.
The message was conveyed to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday, December 1, 2025. Pezeshkian expressed his grief over the disaster, which has caused numerous casualties and injuries across the region.
“On behalf of the government and people of Iran, I convey my condolences to President Prabowo Subianto and the people of Indonesia,” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying, adding a prayer for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Pezeshkian affirmed that Iran is prepared to offer handling and humanitarian aid to support the communities affected by the disaster. He expressed hope that the situation could be managed quickly.
International Support Pours In
Iran’s offer comes as international support continues to pour into Indonesia following the massive floods, particularly in the northern part of Sumatra which has claimed hundreds of lives and caused widespread destruction.
In addition to Iran, Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent his condolences for the large-scale flooding. “Please accept my deepest condolences in connection with the loss of life and large-scale damage caused by the floods in the northern part of Sumatra Island,” Putin stated in a message addressed to President Prabowo Subianto.
Neighboring country Malaysia has also delivered assistance. The Aceh Hydrometeorological Disaster Management Post reported that large-scale medical aid from Malaysia arrived in Aceh, delivered via a special cargo plane carrying two tons of medicine and medical equipment. The aid, amounting to two million pieces of medicine, was the first international medical shipment to reach Aceh following the severe damage caused by Cyclone Senyar since November 22, 2025.
