JAKARTA — The government targets the Zero Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) policy to take effect starting January 1, 2027. Ahead of the implementation, the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) invites transport operators, cargo owners, and drivers to understand the ODOL concept early on.
This understanding is considered an important step to build freight transport that complies with regulations and prioritizes road safety. Through the “Moving Without ODOL” (Bergerak Tanpa ODOL) campaign with the tagline “Compliant Transport, Safer Roads” (Angkutan Taat, Jalan Lebih Selamat), Korlantas emphasizes that ODOL is not merely an issue of vehicle size and cargo volume.
Over dimension refers to a condition where the length, width, or height of a vehicle exceeds technical specifications, usually caused by modifications to the vehicle bed outside official standards. Meanwhile, over loading occurs when the vehicle’s cargo exceeds the allowed gross weight limit (JBI).
The impact of ODOL violations is not only reflected in figures at weigh stations, but also carries the risk of causing loss of braking capacity and reduced vehicle stability, thereby increasing the potential for accidents.
Brigjen Pol. Dr. Aries Syahbudin, S.I.K., S.H., M.Hum., Head of Korlantas Polri who was inaugurated on Monday (12/10/2026), stated that he had been involved in Zero ODOL preparations since early in his tenure as Head of Operations at Korlantas. He stressed that the success of this program is a shared responsibility across all traffic function units.
“Semua lini di fungsi lalu lintas mempunyai kewajiban untuk menyukseskan program Zero Over Dimensi Over Load,” stated Brigjen Pol Aries.
ODOL enforcement is being carried out in stages, starting from public outreach and warnings to law enforcement equipped with technology-based surveillance. Korlantas is preparing an expansion of electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE), including on toll roads integrated with data from relevant ministries.
Cross-sector readiness continues to be accelerated. The Ministry of Transportation reported that the integration of freight transport data has reached 98 percent, and a supporting budget for program execution in 2027 has been discussed at around Rp70 billion.
Korlantas urges fleet owners to immediately normalize their vehicle dimensions, and asks cargo owners not to force loads beyond permitted limits. They emphasized that ODOL violations are not solely the driver’s fault, but an issue involving the entire logistics chain.
With a thorough understanding of ODOL regulations from now on, it is hoped that the transition toward implementation on January 1, 2027 can proceed smoothly without disrupting national logistics distribution. A law-abiding transport system is expected to deliver better road safety.
