IDNAround – Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir denied the statement that the budget for the renovation of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) amounts to Rp5 trillion.
“Rp5 trillion for the renovation is not true,” Erick said in Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bali, on Thursday, July 7, 2023.
Although he did not specifically mention the budget for the JIS renovation project, he explained that the total budget for revamping 22 stadiums in order to meet the World Football Federation (FIFA) standards amounted to Rp1.9 trillion.
Erick who also serves as SOE Minister lamented such hoax information circulating on social media.
The construction of JIS costs Rp4.5 trillion consisting of Rp3.6 trillion from the central government and Rp900 billion from the Jakarta provincial government.
Erick along with a number of state officials visited JIS in North Jakarta on Tuesday, July 4. The stadium was planned to be proposed as one of the venues for the U-17 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia from November 10 to December 2, 2023.
PSSI planned to propose six to eight stadiums to FIFA. However, Erick Thohir refused to give the names of the proposed stadiums because they need to first meet the standards. “FIFA will come to review [the stadiums],” he said.
