IDNAround – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said that Indonesia will have to adjust the number of international tourists it aims to attract in 2023. Minister Sandiaga said that the Tourism Ministry is focusing on attracting tourists from India, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Sandiaga also said that a possible recession is more evident after the economy of three major countries, the United States, China, and Europe are predicted to slow down. According to Sandiaga, a recession will have an effect on the spending habits of the people from the aforementioned countries, and in turn, will affect the tourism sector.
“Especially for foreign tourists, we are directing our focus on our major markets, including India which has experienced an extraordinary increase, Australia and New Zealand which are not included in the recession zone, Malaysia and Singapore which continue to grow,” said Sandiaga Uno on Monday, January 9, 2023.
Sandiaga explained that to achieve the tourism foreign exchange target of US$ 5 billion or around Rp 77.9 trillion, tourists must be encouraged to extend their staying period. In addition, there must be an increase in the quality of tourist spending, both foreign and domestic.
