TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo led a meeting with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) in Jayapura, Papua, on Thursday (26/8/2021).
In his direction, Sigit emphasized Forkopimda Jayapura, to ensure readiness for the implementation of the XX National Sports Week (PON) and the handling and control of Covid-19, or the corona virus.
Regarding the XX PON, the former Banten Police Chief encouraged Forkopimda Papua to play an active role in completing the venue or location for the implementation of the national sports event.
“There are 44 PON venues in 4 city districts. Currently, it is less than 1 month before the implementation of PON XX. There are still various problems with PON XX venues. This will hinder the process of implementing PON. Forkopimda must play an active role in helping resolve existing problems, “said Sigit in his briefing.
By holding the XX PON, according to Sigit, it will encourage economic growth in the region. In this way, the local community will prosper.
“The implementation of PON XX will encourage economic growth in Papua in the second quarter of 2021. The Papuan economy with mining and quarrying by 13.14 percent, while without mining and quarrying by 2.81 percent,” said Sigit.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian economy began to grow by 7.07 percent. Meanwhile, the increase in production of gold and copper commodities is quite significant, causing Papua’s economic growth through mining and quarrying to grow positively since the fourth quarter of 2020. Papua’s economic growth without mining and quarrying grew by 2.8 percent.
The former Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police also appealed to Forkopimda Jayapura to pay attention to the handling and control of Covid-19, related to the implementation of the XX PON. According to Sigit, the implementation must still apply strict health protocols (prokes).
“Health protocols for the prevention and control of Covid-19 as well as vaccinations for all related parties must be implemented,” said Sigit.
With the implementation of disciplined procedures, continued Sigit, the implementation of the XX PON will run smoothly and public health from the corona virus can be guaranteed.
“PON XX Papua is successful and smooth, investment is safe, economic growth is increasing, Papua is more advanced and modern, society is healthy and prosperous,” said Sigit.
On the other hand, Sigit explained, the five regencies/cities holding the PON, Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, Mimika Regency, and Keerom Regency, to date, have the highest active cases in Papua.
Therefore, Sigit continued, joint efforts with all parties are needed to suppress the spread of Covid-19 in Papua, especially in the regencies/cities that host PON XX Papua.
“The BOR level in Papua is ranked 14th nationally at 41 percent, a decrease of 11 percent from the previous 2 weeks of 52 percent. There are currently 14 locations with a capacity of 810 beds. 4 districts/cities need to pay attention (Biak Numfor, Mimika, Jayapura Regency, and Keerom), which have high active cases but do not yet have an isoter. Efforts to shift the isoman to an isoter need to be carried out optimally with the help of the local government, community leaders, and regional leaders, “said Sigit.
To suppress the growth rate of the corona virus, Sigit stated, for the Forkopimda Jayapura, to accelerate or accelerate vaccination of the community. According to Sigit, the Indonesian government pays special attention to meeting the needs of vaccines in Papua, especially in areas that hold PON.
“The government pays special attention to Papua by meeting the need for vaccine doses for the city/regency hosting the XX Papua PON venue, which was sent from 15 to 18 August 2021 as many as 485,200 doses. Vaccination in Papua must reach 32,423 doses per day to achieve the national target of 2,3 million doses per day. For the area that is the venue for PON XX Papua, acceleration must be carried out, especially to reach 100% dose, “concluded Sigit.
