JAYAPURA — The Narcotics Investigation Directorate of Papua Regional Police, alongside the Papua Regional National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) and Brimob Units, executed a large-scale joint operation targeting a high-risk narcotics den in Vietnam Village, Lower Argapura, and surrounding hotels in South Jayapura District on Saturday (24/10/2026). Officers secured 10 suspects along with two sacks of cannabis, replica firearms, and electronic devices.
The integrated task force deployed hundreds of joint personnel—comprising Brimob, Papua Police Narcotics Directorate, Patrol Units, BNNP Papua, Maritime Police, and Jayapura City Police—to sever illicit narcotics distribution channels impacting the community.
Multi-Jurisdictional Arrests and Urine Screening Results
Director of Papua Police Narcotics Investigation Senior Commissioner Dr. Alfian, S.I.K., M.Si., explained that the enforcement followed direct instructions from the National Police Chief to dismantle narcotics hotspots nationwide. Among the 10 apprehended individuals, six were foreign nationals from Papua New Guinea (PNG) and four were Indonesian citizens.
“Inspections expanded from the main site in Vietnam Village to several lodging facilities, including Hotel Raize and Hotel Mahkota. Out of those secured, six are PNG nationals and four are Indonesian citizens. Initial medical screening via urine testing confirmed all 10 individuals tested positive for cannabis use,” Senior Commissioner Alfian stated during a press briefing at Papua Police Headquarters.
Seizure of Physical Evidence and Barter Transaction Indications
In addition to securing the suspects and two sacks containing suspected cannabis (some concealed inside rice bags), officers confiscated related physical evidence. Seized items included one airsoft gun, two air rifles, several edged weapons (knives, swords, daggers), 15 to 20 smartphones, and portable speakers.
Investigators strongly suspect the confiscated mobile phones and electronic devices were obtained through barter transactions for cannabis or originated from property crimes. All physical evidence is undergoing detailed forensic examination to establish clear legal links in accordance with statutory procedures.
Inter-Agency Coordination and Community Support
Head of BNNP Papua Brigadier General Anang Triwidiandoko, S.I.K., emphasized that Vietnam Village represents a high-risk area for cross-border narcotics trafficking. Consequently, enforcement was executed in a structured manner while receiving active support from local community leaders, neighborhood heads, and residents advocating for a drug-free environment.
Regarding the six PNG nationals who tested positive for cannabis, Papua Police are coordinating directly with Immigration authorities for administrative processing alongside ongoing criminal proceedings for illicit possession. Resolving this case demonstrates accountable and transparent law enforcement dedicated to protecting the public from narcotics hazards. The principle of #ReserseBekerja guides every action: answering with facts, protecting the process.
