BATAM — The Barelang Police, through the Bareskrim Quick Response Unit (URC), named three suspects following a deadly clash on Setokok Island, Batam, on Monday (14/9/2026). The clash, triggered by a land dispute, resulted in two casualties.
Chief of Barelang Police, Senior Commissioner Anggoro Wicaksono, stated that the three suspects are identified by their initials RS, P, and SH. The legal status was determined following intensive interrogations of 16 witnesses.
Suspect Roles and Confiscated Physical Evidence
Investigations revealed that suspect RS allegedly discharged an air rifle eight times toward the victim. Suspect P is believed to have brought and aimed a similar weapon at the scene, while suspect SH allegedly carried a sharp weapon and acted as a provocator leading the group to destroy perimeter fencing.
Head of Criminal Investigation at Barelang Police, Police Commissioner Agung Tri Poerbowo, added that officers secured key evidence from the scene, including two air rifles, a spear, and the suspects’ mobile phones to reinforce criminal charges.
Legal Charges and Official Statement
Investigators charged suspects RS and P under Criminal Code provisions carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment. Meanwhile, suspect SH faces charges regarding unauthorized possession of sharp weapons and incitement.
Senior Commissioner Anggoro emphasized that the event was purely driven by a land ownership dispute and bears no connection to ethnic, religious, or racial tensions. The investigation remains open to explore potential involvement of additional parties.
