MAKASSAR — The Mobile Brigade Quick Response Unit of the South Sulawesi Regional Police demonstrated rapid action and decisive enforcement in uncovering a major vehicle embezzlement scheme. Operating alongside the Gowa District Police, officers apprehended ALF (34), a woman from Gowa Regency suspected of illegally pawning 21 rental cars belonging to the victim.
The arrest took place on Friday evening while ALF was attending a birthday gathering at a hotel in Makassar. Second Police Inspector Muhammad Abel PM, Sub-unit Head of the South Sulawesi Police Mobile Brigade, confirmed that the operation followed up on official reports regarding fraud and embezzlement filed in early June 2026.
Catering Business Ruse and Document Forgery
Initial investigations revealed that ALF began renting vehicles in mid-2025 under the pretext of operating a catering supply business for a local nutritious meal program across two districts. However, rather than utilizing the fleet for business operations, the suspect pawned the vehicles to third parties using forged registration documents.
Inspector Abel detailed that ALF executed the scheme with assistance from her partner, IF, and an associate, H, who were allegedly involved in fabricating vehicle papers. An intermediary identified as E then connected ALF with IR, a pawn recipient residing in Bantaeng Regency.
Between December 2025 and April 2026, ALF systematically pawned 21 vehicles of various types, ranging from SUVs to family minibuses. Despite monthly rental fees reaching hundreds of millions of rupiah, the suspect made only a single payment in May 2026 before ceasing all financial transactions.
Asset Recovery and Financial Losses
The victim suffered estimated financial losses amounting to IDR 3 billion. Investigators are currently tracing the locations of the transferred vehicles and dissecting the network to determine further accomplice involvement.
The swift response of the Quick Response Unit from initial reporting to physical arrest highlights the force’s commitment to delivering prompt legal resolution.
