JAKARTA – Ahead of the turn of the year, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta has issued a firm policy regarding the 2026 New Year’s Eve celebrations. It has been confirmed that Jakarta will not host any fireworks displays, whether organized by the local government or private parties within the capital city.
This step was taken as a form of national empathy and solidarity amidst recovery efforts following major disasters that recently struck several regions in Indonesia.
Comprehensive Ban for Public and Private Sectors
The policy applies not only to official government events but also covers all entertainment venues, hotels, and privately managed public areas. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government urges that funds usually allocated for fireworks be redirected toward more beneficial activities.

No Official Shows: Iconic locations such as Bundaran HI or Monas will not hold fireworks sessions.

Appeal to the Private Sector: Tourist attractions, malls, and hotels are requested to comply with this ban to maintain a solemn atmosphere.

Strict Supervision: Joint personnel from the Satpol PP (Public Order Agency) to the Police will be deployed to monitor crowd hotspots to ensure public compliance.

The Governor of Jakarta emphasized that Indonesia is currently in a period of mourning and recovery due to natural disasters that hit Sumatra and its surrounding areas.
“We want to celebrate the turn of the year with simplicity and prayer. As a form of our concern for our brothers and sisters affected by disasters, Jakarta is cancelling fireworks parties this year,” said a representative of the DKI Provincial Government in an official statement (12/23/2025).
