Densus 88 Anti-terror arrested 53 suspected terrorists during the period leading up to the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. Dozens of suspected terrorists wanted to take advantage of the momentum of Indonesia’s independence day by launching acts of terrorism.
“So this is the moment of August 17, Independence Day. It is spread across a number of provinces, “said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Argo Yuwono in an online press statement on Friday (20/8).
According to Argo, during the arrest, the police managed to secure a number of pieces of evidence. The evidence is in the form of books.
Argo said the terror plot had been foiled. His party claimed to have arrested suspected terrorists from August 12 to August 17, 2021.
“Previously, we have arrested or secured several people, 53 people spread across 11 provinces starting on August 12 to August 17,” he said.
Previously, it was known that the National Police’s Anti-terror Detachment 88 Team again arrested a number of suspected terrorists after previously as many as 48 people were arrested during the operation from August 12 to August 15, 2021.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police’s Public Relations Division, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, said that so far, the number of suspected terrorists arrested had increased to 53 people.
“So far, 53 terrorist suspects have been arrested by Densus 88 Anti-terror,” said Ahmad when confirmed on Thursday (19/8/2021).
According to Ahmad, the arrests of suspected terrorists were carried out on Monday, August 16, 2021, with suspects CA and AF in East Java and SAT in South Sulawesi. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, officers arrested AMR in North Sumatra and NW alias Tedy Ghozali in Maluku.
“On Tuesday, August 17, the JI (Jemaah Islamiah) group,” said Ahmad.
Previously, the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror arrested 48 suspected terrorists in various parts of Indonesia. Dozens of people were detained from 12-15 August 2021.
“Based on data compiled from Thursday, August 12 to Sunday, August 15, 2021, the National Police’s Anti-terror Detachment 88 succeeded in arresting 48 terrorist suspects in 11 regions in Indonesia,” said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Public Relations Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan during a virtual conference on Monday. Ramadhan explained that of the 48 suspected terrorists, three of them belonged to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulat (JAD) social media network group and 45 others belonged to the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) group.
Ramadhan said the 45 people who were arrested were DW, HM, and IL, who were secured in Jambi. Then AR, SH, IG, SG, FW, JS, and AS in Lampung. Then AF, ML, RJ, AS, and MD in Banten.
Then MM, WM, FA, BB, NP, MD, LS, KT, DS, and FS in Central Java. Then NS and HP in South Sulawesi, and one person with the initials MD in West Kalimantan.
“JI 1 in North Sumatra has 7 targets that will be carried out by Gakkum and 6 suspects have been arrested. So the remaining suspect is still being pursued. The 6 suspects have the initials RS, IH, AK, RA, HA, and DY, “he said.
Ramadhan said, in the West Java area, there were six targets and five people were arrested and one person is still being chased. The initials of the suspected terrorists who were arrested were FS, US, RH, RS, and HM.
“In the East Java area, there are six targets. Four have been arrested and two are still being pursued. The first are FM, ADP, SES, and AP. the name TE,” he said.
Furthermore, for the three people who are members of the JAD social media network in East Kalimantan who have been secured, namely WS, RW, and SU.
