Jakarta — Thousands of people gathered at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning (July 1, 2025) to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Bhayangkara Day. According to observations near the IRTI parking area starting at 8:00 AM WIB, sidewalks were filled with visitors, most of whom were families with children, causing some congestion for pedestrians.
The school holiday period contributed to the large turnout. Fitri (43), a resident of Tangerang, came with her extended family, including her child who participated in the ceremony as part of the youth police program.
“This is our first time attending in person. My child is also involved inside the main area, as a junior police officer on duty,” Fitri said when interviewed at the Monas grounds.
She added that the aerial display was one of the highlights her family had been eager to see. She also brought along her 10-year-old niece to enjoy the spectacle.
A similar sentiment was shared by Karti (47), a resident of Ciledug, who arrived with a group from Larangan Selatan subdistrict. She walked with eight others, all wearing coordinated red outfits.
“There are many others from our area who came by bus,” Karti said, adding that she was excited for the musical performances scheduled later in the day.
Tight Security: Three Security Rings Enforced
To ensure safety during the celebrations, the National Police deployed 5,888 personnel from a joint task force consisting of 5,705 police officers, 100 military personnel, and 83 officials from the Jakarta provincial government.
Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro explained that officers were assigned to three security rings:
-
Ring 1 covered the main ceremonial area, including VVIP and VIP guests, the MSME zone, and general attendees.
-
Ring 2 was positioned at the entrance gates of Monas.
-
Ring 3 extended to the surrounding areas, including Bundaran HI, Tugu Tani, Lapangan Banteng, Harmoni intersection, and Jalan Veteran 1 to 3.
“Officers were also stationed at public transportation hubs such as train stations and TransJakarta bus stops to provide security and ensure smooth public activity,” Susatyo said in a written statement.
Traffic Remains Steady with Minor Disruptions
As of 9:11 AM WIB, traffic around Jakarta City Hall remained steady, although occasional slowdowns occurred due to increased vehicle volume heading toward Monas.
Authorities had previously urged the public to use public transportation and avoid the Monas area during the event. Several roads were closed and traffic rerouted to support the flow of the celebration and ensure public safety.
