IdnAround.com – Sunhaji, a tea trader who became viral after being mocked by Miftah Maulana, the Special Envoy to the President for Religious Harmony and Religious Infrastructure Development, has been appointed as an honorary member of Banser.
H Syafiq Syauqi, the Banser National Chief, stated that Sunhaji’s appointment as an honorary member was well-deserved for several reasons. First, it reflects the organization’s support and empathy for Sunhaji. “Pak Sunhaji is also known as an NU member who actively participates in religious activities such as study groups,” said Gus Syafiq in a written statement on Friday, December 6, 2024.
He added that Sunhaji’s involvement with Banser will help expand the role of Nahdlatul Ulama through active participation. “Pak Sunhaji will gain more brothers and be motivated to keep engaging in various activities. By being part of Banser, he won’t only sell tea at study groups but also contribute more to helping congregants and the community through his role in Banser.”
Being a member of Banser will allow Sunhaji to play a more significant role in organized social and religious activities. “It will give Pak Sunhaji space to actively engage in organized social-religious activities, making his presence more meaningful. He will no longer just be a trader but will also help the congregation,” he said.
Gus Syafiq emphasized that Sunhaji sets an example for others due to his great heart for forgiveness and reconciliation. “This noble attitude is a lesson for all of us. Forgiving is a commendable act in Allah’s eyes, and we, as His creations, also have the chance to forgive those who have wronged us,” he added.
For Gus Syafiq, Sunhaji’s appointment as an honorary Banser member shows that Ansor is an inclusive organization, a space for anyone, regardless of their profession, to contribute. “Pak Sunhaji is expected to become a role model for everyone. He will undergo the Banser Basic Training at Satkoryon Banser Grabag, Magelang. His service becomes more noble, like being Indonesia’s security guard, as Gus Dur once said,” he concluded.
