IDNAround – In the B20 Summit (The Business 20 Summit) Monday (14/11/2022), Elon Musk’s virtual presence attracted attention because he was wearing a batik shirt. The CEO of Tesla Motors wears Bomba batik from Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Anindya Bakrie, who served as moderator for the event, explained that the Batik Bomba shirt that Elon Musk was wearing was specially sent from Indonesia to America. The shirt is dark green.

“Thank you for wearing it. We sent the batik from 15,000 kilometers (km) away,” said Anindya, Monday (14/11/2022).

Get to know Bomba Batik

Anindya explained, Bomba batik originated from a small village in Central Sulawesi, where there are many nickel reserves there.

“It’s a place where you will find a lot of nickel. So maybe you want to visit it,” he added.

Based on an explanation on the official website of the iWareBatik platform, batik and weaving in Palu is known as Bomba batik. The tradition of weaving and batik is passed down from generation to generation.

The production of Bomba batik cloth still uses traditional looms. The coloring uses natural dyes from tree sap.

Initially, Bomba batik had simple motifs, but the motifs became increasingly diverse as time progressed. The motifs in it depict culture, plants, as well as poetry or longing poems by fishermen about life and love.

Bomba means flower

Bomba comes from the Kaili language, one of the main tribes in Central Sulawesi. In Indonesian, bomba means flower.

According to the local community, bomba means openness, togetherness, and reflects an attitude of accepting differences. This meaning can be seen from the attitude of the people of Palu who are open to anyone. They are known to be friendly and accept other people who come to their area.

Not only that, Bomba batik also has a number of original motifs that symbolize local cultural values, such as souraja (traditional houses), maleo birds, sambulugana (areca nut and siri), taiganja (precious metal ornaments), or creeping flowers and carvings. Kaili traditional house.
