The South Sulawesi Regional Police will deploy 4,550 personnel for candlelight operations ahead of Christmas and New Year. This routine operation will be carried out from December 22, 2021, to January 2, 2022.
This effort, according to Pol. Drs. Nana Sudjana AS, M.M., was made to reduce community mobility, which could trigger the spread of COVID-19, so that a third wave does not occur.
“In this case, we know based on last year’s experience that the COVID-19 pandemic situation last year experienced a spike, so then the first wave,” said the South Sulawesi Police Chief, Monday (11/29/21),
At a number of points that are subscribed each year, prepared personnel will patrol and monitor to avoid crowds.
Then we also oversee the implementation so that people don’t gather together. We will also secure the security for New Year’s Eve, when usually people congregate at tourist sites or malls, which we will secure, “explained the South Sulawesi Police Chief.
In addition, personnel were also deployed to places of worship for Christians to provide security. Of course, they will carry out security activities and then escort Christian worship activities.
