Papua – The National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked the Indonesian National Police (TNI) soldiers to be aware of the threat of armed criminal groups (KKB) towards the end of the year. They will create security disturbances in Papua.
“In the future, nearing the end of the year, local issues (in Papua) will escalate. This increase will lead to potential security disturbances. The activities of the KKB, KKSB (armed separatist criminal groups) will increase in intensity,” said the National Police Chief during a briefing with the TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto in Timika, Papua, Friday (10/22/2021).
On this threat, the National Police Chief instructed his staff and asked TNI soldiers to remain ready to guard areas in Papua such as the TNI/Polri to maintain security when PON XX takes place on October 2-15, 2021.
“Keep it up and continue until the end of the year. Yesterday’s success made us proud. However, we must not be careless because we have a task at hand,” said the National Police Chief at the Headquarters of the 20th Raider Infantry Brigade/IJK, Timika, Papua.
On the same occasion, the National Police Chief also expressed his gratitude directly to the police and TNI soldiers who have maintained security and order at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON).
“For Indonesia and for Papua, the 20th PON which was held was of very strategic value because yesterday’s PON was a national event in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the National Police Chief.
The National Police Chief then told how the police and TNI succeeded in dispelling and preventing the threat of the political criminal group (KKP) ahead of the XX PON in Papua.
He said that the TNI/Polri were monitoring the movement of groups trying to disrupt the implementation of the PON, especially in the last days.
“There is information that the KKP group’s movement is safe to take action. Everything can be canceled because of the hard work of colleagues in all corners, in the mountains, in places that will be used to infiltrate. Everything is locked so that the implementation of PON runs safely,” he said.
