The Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, said that his party, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces, were ready to secure the Papua PON event. His party has even prepared as many as 9,371 personnel in all clusters.
In detail, as many as 3,000 personnel are stationed in the City and Regency of Jayapura. Meanwhile, in Mimika Regency and Merauke Regency, the police stationed more than 1,000 personnel each. This security force is also added with the support of personnel from the TNI.
“The deployment of the troops is for the sake of creating a sense of security, comfort, and peace during the Papua PON. We have to show people outside Papua and even abroad that we can carry out the PON event well and successfully,” said Mathius in his official statement.
