Suara.com – The Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police arrested 53 suspected terrorists. A total of 48 suspected terrorists of whom are affiliated with the Jemaah Islamiyyah (JI) terrorism network.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters Inspector General Pol Argo Yuwono said the JI network wanted to carry out an act of terror in the midst of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
“According to the information from several suspects we arrested. Yes, indeed, the JI group itself and he wanted to use the moment of August 17, Independence Day,” said Argo at the National Police Headquarters, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Friday (20/8/2021).
Meanwhile, Argo revealed that these 53 terrorists were arrested from 12 to 17 August 2021. They were arrested in 11 provinces.
“The Jamaah Islamiyah network is 50 people, that’s what we have secured in 10 provinces. While in one province, this is a network from the Ansharut Daulah Network (JAD) supporting ISIS, the three people are in East Kalimantan,” he explained.
53 Terrorists Arrested Ahead of Indonesia’s Independence Day
The National Police’s Anti-terror Detachment 88 previously arrested 48 suspected terrorists ahead of the commemoration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. They were arrested in just three days.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters Kombes Pol Ahmad Ramadhan said that dozens of suspected terrorists were arrested in 11 different areas. They were detained from 12 to 15 August 2021.
“Based on data compiled from Thursday, 12 to Sunday, August 15, 2021, Densus 88 succeeded in arresting 48 terrorist suspects in 11 regions of Indonesia,” explained Ramadhan on Monday (16/8).
