JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has officially extended the policy for the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) from August 2-9, 2021.
With this policy, academics asked the government to balance this policy by providing assistance to economically vulnerable families.
Sociologist Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Surabaya Bagong Suyanto said that the government should not only intervene in Level 4 PPKM, but also provide relief to the community.
“The extension must be followed by providing assistance to affected communities,” said Bagong when contacted by MNC Portal Indonesia, Tuesday (3/8/2021).
He further explained, quick steps to provide assistance must be taken because the vulnerable economic community is on the brink.
According to him, if the government ignores it, more people will fall into a slump. “Because the resilience of the community has almost run out,” he concluded.
President Jokowi said that PPKM Level 4 which was implemented from July 26 to August 2 had brought improvements on a national scale compared to before.
“Both it terms of daily case confirmation, active case rate, cure and BOR percentage,” he said.
