Jakarta – The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) investigated the alleged leak of BRI Life customer data which was then sold online in a forum. The data leak is known to have been spread in a tweet shared by the Twitter account Under The Breach.

“Exsus is currently being investigated,” said the National Police’s Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, Komjen Agus Andrianto, when confirmed, Wednesday (28/7).

The case will be followed up by the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes (Dittipideksus) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Department. Agus has not been able to describe in detail about the initial suspicion that the data could be spread in cyberspace.

He only explained that the police were investigating allegations of criminal offenses related to banking matters.

“Regarding banking. BRI Life data, the guess is from there,” he explained.

Referring to the Under The Breach upload, it was stated that there was a major violation related to individuals selling sensitive data from BRI Life. According to him, these individuals have a 30-minute video about the data they managed to get up to about 250 GB in size.

He also included screenshots of a number of data allegedly belonging to BRI Life customers, ranging from ID cards to medical records.

BRI Life is currently conducting a digital trace to investigate the incident. They state that they never provide personal data to irresponsible parties.

“BRI Life continues to make maximum efforts to protect policyholder data through the implementation of information technology governance and governance in accordance with the provisions and standards and applicable laws and regulations,” said BRI Life’s Corporate Secretary, Ade Nasution in a written statement, Tuesday (27/27/2020).
