– Beach attractions along the coastline of South Garut are closed for tourist activities. The closure was carried out since Saturday (16/5/2021) evening after seeing thousands of vehicles continue to arrive south of Garut, causing congestion.
“Since the night we closed, we are still doing the blocking until now,” explained the Head of Garut Police AKBP Adi Benny Cahyono, when contacted via his cell phone, Sunday (16/5/2021) morning.
In addition to officially closing the southern coast of Garut, according to Benny, his party also insulates the roads leading to tourist attractions in the south of Garut and asks tourists to turn their vehicles around.
The activity of blocking tourists to the south of Garut has been carried out at several points since Saturday night, such as at the Simpang Bayongbong junction.
Police and TNI officials asked tourists to turn around.
Contacted separately, the Head of the Garut Regency Tourism and Culture Office, Budi Gan Gan, confirmed that the beach tourist attractions in South Garut were closed since Saturday (15/5/2021) night because visitors were booming.
“Since Saturday morning the symptoms have seen a booming traffic, we have instructed the head of the UPT to coordinate with the local Covid Task Force and Forkopimda to close,” Budi said when contacted via his cell phone, Sunday (16/5/2021) morning.
According to Budi, before it was completely closed, his party tried to open and close while waiting for tourists who were already at tourist attractions to return home. However, because it was still booming, finally on Saturday night all tourist attractions were completely closed.
“Until today, we are totally closed until the time limit cannot be determined,” he said.
Meanwhile, other tourist attractions in Garut are still under control and have not yet been closed. However, several tourist attractions were observed to be crowded and visitors were opened and closed, such as at Cangkuang Temple.
Budi emphasized that the closure of these tourist attractions was carried out for humanitarian reasons, to avoid the emergence of Covid-19 clusters in tourist attractions and several regions were doing the same thing.
“We will continue to evaluate the situation and conditions in the field,” he said. (*)
