BANGKOK – The closing ceremony of the SEA Games 2025 Thailand marked the end of Southeast Asia’s largest sporting event which had been underway since December 9. held at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Saturday (20/12) the ceremony was filled with festivity and a spirit of sportsmanship.
A performance titled The Sound of Whistle opened the event’s excitement. During this session two local singers performed energetic songs accompanied by choreography and vibrant visuals across the stadium area.
The event then continued with an athlete parade involving representatives from all participating nations. Flag bearers emerged first followed by a procession of athletes and officials from 10 countries who circled the stadium to greet the audience while waving their national flags.
The procession received a very warm welcome from the thousands of spectators filling the stadium. After parading around the track the athletes gathered in the center of the field according to their respective countries.
The next agenda featured speeches from several local officials including one delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Thamanat Prompow. In addition to the speeches the committee also broadcasted a video containing various memorable moments of athletes from different sports in action.
The extinguishing of the flame officially signified the conclusion of the SEA Games 2025. This was followed by the lowering of the SEA Games Federation flag and the SEA Games 2025 flag. The Federation flag was then handed over from Thailand to Malaysia which will host the next SEA Games in 2027.
The Malaysian flag was then hoisted as a symbol of the next host’s baton. This process was accompanied by traditional Malay dances and songs showcasing the unique culture of the neighboring country as an initial greeting toward the 34th edition.
A performance titled The Sound of Champions served as the final session of the ceremony. Two local Thai singers returned to the stage to perform We Are The Champions by Queen and Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake.
The Indonesian contingent concluded its struggle at the SEA Games 2025 with a tally of 91 gold 112 silver and 130 bronze medals earning them second place in the final standings. This figure officially surpassed the target of 80 gold medals previously set by the government.
This achievement also marked a new history for national sports as it became the best result since 1995 excluding instances when Indonesia served as the host. This success is expected to be a vital asset for the development of national athletes heading toward future international competitions.
