RI Dukung Deklarasi Global Perlindungan Personel Kemanusiaan di PBB - Maklumat untuk Umat

IdnAround.com – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono attended the launch of the Global Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel at UN Headquarters in New York on Sunday (21/9/2025). The declaration’s launch was part of a series of events during the 80th High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly.

In his speech, Foreign Minister Sugiono asserted that humanitarian personnel must not be targets in conflict situations. He also stated Indonesia’s commitment to cooperate with the international community to end impunity for any violations.

Three Key Pillars of the Declaration

The declaration, which was initiated by a group of ministers from various nations, emphasizes three practical steps to enhance protection for humanitarian workers. The three main pillars of the declaration are:

  • Adherence to International Humanitarian Law and the facilitation of humanitarian access.
  • Alignment of protection efforts at the international, national, and local levels.
  • Accountability for violations against humanitarian personnel.

The document is also specifically aimed at protecting Indonesian citizens working as volunteers or staff in UN agencies and other humanitarian organizations in conflict zones, such as in Gaza, Sudan, and other vulnerable areas.

Supported by 104 Nations and Housed at the IFRC

The declaration was initiated by nine nations, including Indonesia, along with Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. As of its launch, 104 countries, including Indonesia, had expressed their support.

At the conclusion of the event, Foreign Minister Sugiono symbolically signed the declaration document along with foreign ministers and other high-ranking officials from supporting countries. The document will subsequently be housed at the headquarters of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and will be open for signing by all UN member states.
