JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to the Two-State Solution as the only path to lasting peace. In a speech at the High-Level Meeting on the Peaceful Resolution of the Question of Palestine at UN headquarters in New York on September 22, 2025, Prabowo presented Indonesia’s firm stance, which drew global attention.
The speech emphasized the importance of recognizing statehood as a foundation for sustainable peace, not as a means to legitimize violence.
End the Humanitarian Disaster and Call for Palestinian Recognition
Prabowo opened his speech with a call for an immediate end to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. He asserted that an end to the war must be the top priority.
The President also urged countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to do so immediately. According to him, the recognition of the State of Palestine is the right action and is on the right side of history, which will give hope for peace to all parties.
Indonesia is Ready to Recognize Israel and Guarantee Its Security
In a point that drew significant attention, President Prabowo conveyed Indonesia’s unique position. He stated that after Israel recognizes the independence and sovereignty of Palestine, Indonesia will promptly recognize the State of Israel and support guarantees for its security.
To support the peace process, Prabowo also affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to participate, including by providing peacekeeping forces.
The President concluded his speech with an emotional and urgent plea: “Peace, peace now! Peace immediately! We need peace!”. He also stressed that this conflict is not only about the fate of Palestine but also the future of Israel and the credibility of the UN as a guardian of world peace.
As a side note, Prabowo’s microphone briefly cut out during the speech because he exceeded the allotted time limit, but the core of his message was clearly conveyed to the delegates present in the assembly hall.
