IDNAround – The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) officially detained corruption suspects in the seizure of Surya Darmadi’s land.
The detention was made after Surya underwent an examination for approximately 3.5 hours at the Attorney General’s Office.
Surya arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office, South Jakarta on Monday, August 15, 2022, at 1.56 PM. He walked out of the Attorney General’s roundhouse at 5:30 PM.
The Chronology
The boss of the palm oil company Duta Palma Group came out from the side door instead of the main door of the office of the Young Attorney General for Special Crimes.
He was under heavy guard which made it difficult for reporters to ask for his response.
The head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General’s Office, Ketut Sumedana, said Surya would be detained at the Salemba Detention Center. “Detained for 20 days,” Ketut said.
Surya turned himself in to the Prosecutor’s Office after becoming a fugitive. He flew from Taiwan to Indonesia to fulfill the call of the Attorney General’s Office.
The prosecutor’s office has named Surya as a suspect in a case of allegedly encroaching on 37,095 hectares of oil palm land in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau.
The land was cultivated without permission by the Duta Palma Group, Apeng’s oil palm plantation company, during 2003-2022.
The Punishment
Surya is known to have not ignored the attorney general’s call three times after the determination of himself as a suspect.
Surya was also charged with corruption and money laundering (TPPU) which caused state losses of Rp 78 trillion.
Surya had also previously been named a suspect in a corruption case of revision of forest conversion in Riau Province to the Ministry of Forestry in 2014 by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The results of the investigation said that Surya Darmadi bribed the former Governor of Riau, Annas Maamun, for Rp 3 billion through the Manurung Gold Medal Wrestling.
