JAKARTA – Indonesia’s capital has achieved a significant milestone on the international stage. Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, announced that Jakarta has successfully ranked 17th out of 50 top cities worldwide for the quality of its public transportation in 2025.
This achievement is based on the latest survey released by the renowned international media and hospitality outlet, Time Out 2025. Within the Southeast Asian (ASEAN) region, Jakarta demonstrated an outstanding performance, trailing only behind Singapore while outperforming other major hubs such as Bangkok, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur.
“Out of 50 cities and 18,000 respondents surveyed, Jakarta is currently at number 17. In ASEAN, we only lose to Singapore; we are better than Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Bangkok,” stated Pramono Anung during a visit to Senen, Central Jakarta, on Monday (Sept 8, 2025).
According to Pramono, Jakarta’s inclusion in this elite global list is clear evidence that the city’s public facility transformation is increasingly recognized on a global scale. The survey, which involved 18,000 respondents, reflects high levels of community satisfaction and the reliability of the city’s current transportation modes.
The Governor expressed his hope that this achievement would not lead to complacency but rather serve as a catalyst to further improve service quality in the coming years.
“Hopefully, with this, we can become even better—no longer just rank 17, but move even higher,” he remarked optimistically on Monday (Sept 8, 2025).
