JAKARTA – Manchester United narrowly avoided defeat when they visited Vitality Stadium in the 34th week of the Premier League on Sunday (April 27) night. Fortunately, a late goal from Rasmus Hojlund in injury time secured a point for the Red Devils as they drew 1-1 against Bournemouth.
Man Utd fell behind in the first half through a goal from Antoine Semenyo. The goal resulted from a defensive error by the Red Devils. Patrick Dorgu lost possession on the left flank after receiving a pass from Andre Onana. Evanilson quickly capitalized, combining with Semenyo before the striker fired a low shot into the bottom corner, leaving Onana helpless in the 23rd minute.
Despite trailing, United had several golden opportunities throughout the first half, including a chance from Alejandro Garnacho. However, their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal proved costly.
In the second half, Bournemouth were reduced to 10 men after Evanilson was shown a straight red card in the 70th minute for a dangerous tackle on Noussair Mazraoui. The numerical advantage allowed Manchester United to dominate possession and pile pressure on the home side’s defense.
Nevertheless, the equalizer only came deep into injury time. Following a pass from Manuel Ugarte, Rasmus Hojlund calmly slotted the ball past Bournemouth goalkeeper Kepa. The scoreline remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim must be grateful to Hojlund, who became the team’s savior and prevented a defeat at Vitality Stadium.
