“This award is given in recognition of Indonesia’s consistent support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the Presidential Complex in Jakarta on the same day.
In addition to presenting the award, the Special Envoy conveyed congratulations from President Mahmoud Abbas to President Jokowi and the people of Indonesia on the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.
According to Retno, President Mahmoud Abbas appreciates Indonesia’s crucial role in supporting the Palestinian people, including Indonesia’s advocacy for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and a two-state solution.
“President Jokowi reiterated Indonesia’s consistent position to continue supporting the Palestinian struggle. Indonesia will also continue to advocate for a ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian assistance, and of course, a two-state solution,” explained Retno.
During the meeting, President Jokowi reaffirmed Indonesia’s stance to continue supporting the Palestinian struggle, as well as its commitment to advocating for international recognition and full membership for Palestine in the United Nations.
“Indonesia will also continue to approach UN member states to recognize Palestine and support its full membership in the UN,” Retno promised.
