IDNAround – A witness in the aggravated assault trial against Mario Dandy told the court on Tuesday that the defendant did nothing to help his victim who was lying motionlessly on the street with severe injuries in the head and face after the assault.
Mario is accused of assaulting 17-year-old David Ozora on Jalan Swadarma Raya near the Green Permata housing complex in South Jakarta on February 20.
Natalia Puspita Sari, who lives at the housing complex, recognized the victim as a friend of her son. She was at the scene shortly after the assault ended.
“I shouted to him: ‘Who are you? What are you doing here? You’re a stranger and nobody wants you to be here’,” Natalia told the South Jakarta District Court about her encounter with Mario.
“While walking, I also asked him: ‘What have you done to [David]? He’s a friend of my son’,” she added.
According to Natalia, a girl who was later identified by initials A.G., 15, reportedly Mario’s girlfriend, was also present at the scene.
A.G. has been convicted as complicit in the assault and sentenced to three and a half years in the juvenile detention facility.
Natalia said David’s conditions were very disturbing as she saw him with blood coming out of his ears, nose, and mouth.
Mario lied to her by claiming that he attacked David for ‘harassing my little sister’ who he meant as A.G., Natalia said.
Natalia took the initiative to bring David to the hospital in her car.
“Was there an initiative from Mario Dandy to bring David to the hospital?” an attorney from the defense asked her.
“No,” she replied and delivered the same answer when asked for a second time.
David was carried to her car by security guards at the housing complex with Mario only watching, she said.
Mario claimed that he offered to transport David to the hospital with his Rubicon Jeep SUV.
“After a security guard told me to stop playing vigilante justice, I told [Natalia] ‘let’s go to the hospital’,” David told the panel of judges.
But Natalia insisted she never heard him saying that during that time.
She also testified that neither Mario nor A.G. came to help as she attempted to do first aid on David.
A day later, when Natalia visited a local police station to give her deposition on the case, she saw Mario, A.G., and a third defendant in the case identified as Shane Lukas.
Through the glass window, Natalia saw Lukas playing guitar and A.G. resting her head on Mario’s shoulder and was stunned by the unbelievably relaxed surroundings as if nothing happened.
“David was in a coma and I believed they knew he was in the hospital. But they kept laughing and smiling as if nothing happened. I was so disappointed,” Natalia said.
Another witness, who introduced himself as Rudy Kurniawan, told the court that Mario continued to act aggressively after the assault.
“His body kept moving and he was emotional,” Rudy said.
