IDNAround – The ASEAN senior officials meeting or SOM on Monday, May 8, kicked off the 42nd Summit series of the Southeast Asian regional organization in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. Sidharto Suryodipuro, the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s director for ASEAN Cooperation, led the meeting.
“The SOM discussed a number of matters, including the priorities of Indonesia’s Chair in ASEAN in 2023 and the preparations for holding a series of ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meetings and the 42nd Summit,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said in a press release of the Communications Team and Media of the ASEAN Summit 2023.
The 42nd ASEAN Summit will take place in Labuan Bajo from May 9 to 11, attended by eight ASEAN leaders plus the Prime Minister of Timor Leste. They will discuss issues of common interest under Indonesia’s chairmanship with the theme ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’.
The results of this meeting will be discussed further in the ASEAN foreign ministers meeting.
In this year’s ASEAN Summit, regional leaders will also ratify the statement of ASEAN Leaders on the Development of the ASEAN Post-2025 Community. This is expected to strengthen the ASEAN Post-2025 drafting process and make the Post-2025 ASEAN vision visionary, ambitious, adaptive, and strategic.
