IDNAround – Indonesia will invite G20 nations at the Labor and Employment Ministers Meeting (LEMM) to develop a more inclusive labor market to provide better job opportunities to people with disabilities, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has said.

“The inclusiveness of the labor market (will become Indonesia’s priority issue, ed.). I think the job market should be opened more for people with disabilities, then community-based competency development (should be improved),” she said in answer to reporters’ questions while observing the preparations for the implementation of the 2022 G20 LEMM here on Monday.

The Organize of G20 LEMM

The G20 LEMM, which has been organized under the Sherpa Track, is a ministerial-level meeting that will follow up on the results of the discussion at the Employment Working Group (EWG) meetings—which have been held five times—on sustainable job creation, work safety and health, as well as building an inclusive labor market.

The ministerial-level meeting will be held in Jimbaran Village, Badung District, Bali Province, on September 14, 2022. Meanwhile, the 6th G20 EWG meeting is being held in Jimbaran Village on September 12 and 13.

According to the minister, Indonesia believes that the current recovery of the global economy from the COVID-19 pandemic must become an opportunity for all countries to strengthen their cooperation to make the job market more inclusive so that no one is left behind.

Hence, her ministry has also organized an exhibition showcasing Indonesia’s best practices in opening the job market for persons with disabilities at the venue of the G20 LEMM.

The Goal of G20 LEMM

A number of non-governmental organizations, such as DNetwork and Menembus Batas, have been involved in the exhibition to showcase the participation of various stakeholders in developing a more inclusive job market in Indonesia.

“The goal (of the exhibition, ed.) is to show that Indonesia’s G20 Presidency does not only talk about the concepts. However, we also have (concrete) examples or role models (in developing an inclusive job market), as we have always echoed in the G20 EWG Meeting,” Fauziyah added.

In addition to the development of a more inclusive labor market, Indonesia has raised three other priority issues at the G20 LEMM, including the development of human resource capacity for sustainable productivity, sustainable job creation, as well as the adoption of more effective worker protection policies to improve their resilience.
