The President inaugurated Anas as MenPAN-RB for the remainder of the 2019–2024 term in place of Tjahjo Kumolo, who died on July 1, 2022.
The inauguration was based on Presidential Decree No. 91/B of 2022 concerning the appointment of state ministers to the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet for the 2019–2024 period, dated September 7, 2022.
“He already understands what to do,” the President said.
Azwar Anas had a good track record while serving as the head of Banyuwangi district, East Java, he noted.
“His track record was clear when he was in charge of the bureaucracy in Banyuwangi. I saw a lot of things, I saw directly there, innovations in the field of public services, innovations in ID cards, licensing, and others,” the President said.
Anas has been serving as head of the Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute (LKPP) since January 13.
Before his appointment at LKPP, Anas served as the head of Banyuwangi district for two terms from 2010 till 2021, and earlier, as a legislator of the House of Representatives (DPR RI).
During his tenure as Banyuwangi district head, Anas was lauded for his success in elevating the district’s tourism sector through various events, such as Tour de Ijen, Banyuwangi Festival, Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival, and Banyuwangi Jazz Festival.
Banyuwangi also received the Innovation Government Award as the most innovative district in Indonesia in 2018.
