President Joko Widodo made a direct visit to the Rumpin Modern Nursery in Rumpin District, Bogor Regency, West Java on Thursday (March 10 2022). During the visit, the President emphasized that nursery development is one of the government’s efforts in the land rehabilitation program in the country.
“Ensuring that the reforestation program launched to restore critical land, land that often landslides, and land that often floods can actually be started by building a nursery,” said the President.
The president said the government would build several similar nurseries in 2022. The president said it could also support the government’s research on germplasm resources in Indonesia.
“In 2022, about 30 nurseries, such as the Rumpin nursery, will be able to produce around 12 million plant seeds, trees, be it Albanian, sengon, then eucalyptus, then manglid, teak, mahogany, all of them are there,” he said.
In addition, the President hopes that the nursery development will not only bring environmental benefits, but also encourage economic development.
“So that the products we produce can really bring economic benefits to the country and society. That way the environment can be enjoyed and the economy can be enjoyed,” said the Head of State.
Meanwhile, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, said that his party would continue to conduct research to support the development of superior seeds based on their characteristics.
“Because of this later we need to address our various environmental and forestry problems, and each location has different characteristics and needs,” he said.
In addition, Laksana said BRIN would involve many parties to support the development of nursery centers in the country.
“We will specifically deploy life science researchers in our field of life sciences, as well as former researchers from the Ministry of Agriculture and KLHK, to return to support research in nurseries that can help KLHK develop,” said Laksana.
Also attending the review were the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and Chair of the BRIN Steering Committee Megawati Soekarnoputri, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and BRIN Steering Committee Bambang Kesowo.
