President Joko Widodo or Jokowi asked for domestically produced vaccines to be prepared. Jokowi wants domestic vaccines such as the Red and White vaccine to be used from mid-2022.
“Conveying the direction of the president. That related to the vaccine being prepared, both the Red and White vaccine and the vaccine produced domestically,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto during a press conference, Sunday (16/1/2022).
“Where this is of course prepared for the middle of this year or is estimated in the second semester,” he explained.
The development of the Merah Putih vaccine was carried out by Airlangga University with PT Biotis, PT Bio Farma with Baylor College of Medicine, University of Indonesia with PT Etana, Bandung Institute of Technology, PRBM Eijkman BRIN with PT Bio Farma, and Padjajaran University with PT Bio Farma and Lipotek.
This Red and White vaccine was previously estimated to be ready for mass production in mid-2022 for the handling of Covid-19.
Previously, the Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Penny Kusumastuti Lukito conveyed that the development of the Red and White vaccine at Airlangga University (Unair) had passed preclinical trials.
“Currently, Unair’s Red and White vaccine has finished preclinical testing, waiting for clinical trials,” said Penny at a press conference, Monday (10/1/2022).
Now, the Merah Putih vaccine is in the production stage in the laboratory to start clinical trials.
The clinical trial for the Red and White vaccine itself is planned to start in early February 2022. “Clinical trials for the Merah Putih vaccine from Airlangga University and PT Biotis can take place in early February,” he said.
