IdnAround.com – Thanks to their early arrival in Paris, the adaptation process for the Indonesian boccia athletes has proceeded optimally. Muhammad Afrizal Syafa and his teammates have begun acclimating to the weather and food as they prepare for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Gischa Zayana, Muhammad Afrizal Syafa, and Felix Ardi Yudha successfully secured three tickets to Paris after reaching the finals of the World Boccia Paralympic Qualification Tournament 2024 in March.
Additionally, Muhammad Bintang Satria Herlangga obtained an additional ticket through the bipartite pathway in July 2024. Despite this being their Paralympic debut, the Indonesian Boccia Team is optimistic about achieving success.
“With our current lineup, we are optimistic about reaching the semifinals in the team event,” said Indonesian Boccia Head Coach Islahuzzaman Nur Yadin on Tuesday (August 27, 2024).
England is predicted to be one of Indonesia’s toughest opponents. However, the victory in their last encounter has boosted the confidence of the Indonesian team.
They have also faced other strong teams like Portugal and Slovakia. Indonesia won two golds and one silver at the Montreal World Boccia Cup 2024.
“We’ve met each other in previous events. It will come down to who is more prepared, as we are already familiar with our opponents,” Islahuzzaman added.
Felix Ardi Yudha and Gischa Zayana have the potential to advance from the group stage in the BC 2 men’s and women’s categories. However, Bintang faces a tough challenge, as he will be competing against Japan’s top-ranked athlete and a competitor from Malaysia.
“We just entered the athletes’ village yesterday with the larger contingent, but arriving early has made a significant difference. Now we are ready to compete,” said Islahuzzaman.
Felix expressed his readiness to face Canada in the BC 2 men’s individual event. They have made every effort to adapt to the conditions at South Paris Arena 1.
This is the main venue for the boccia competition at the 2024 Paralympics. The technical meeting for the boccia event will be held on Wednesday (August 28, 2024), before the official matches begin on Thursday (August 29, 2024).
