The Growth of Industrial Estates Has A Double Effect on The National Economy

Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, Dony Maryadi Oekon, said that the growth of industrial estates had a wide double effect on the national economy. According to him, the investment in or the operation of the industry will increase the added value of domestic raw materials, absorb local workers, and receive foreign exchange from exports.

Dony said, Medan Industrial Estate (KIM) is one of the industrial areas in Indonesia which is managed by PT Kawasan Industri Medan (Persero) which is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) and has been established since October 7, 1988 with the composition of shares consisting of the Government Indonesia (central) 60 percent, North Sumatra Provincial Government 30 percent, and Medan City Government 10 percent.

“With the establishment of this area, the interest of investors to invest, especially in North Sumatra Province, has also increased. PT KIM (Persero) has an area of ​​1000 hectares with an occupancy of 72 percent which will continue to be developed, either alone or in collaboration with private parties who are experienced in industrial estate development,” said Dony while leading the Commission VII DPR RI’s Special Working Visit Team to PT KIM (Persero). ) in Medan, North Sumatra, Saturday (February 5, 2022).

He also said that currently the development of industrial estates in Indonesia has increased significantly. In the last five years, the number of industrial estates in Indonesia has increased by 47.2 percent, where in 2016 there were 86 industrial areas and in 2021 there were 131 areas. Meanwhile, continued Dony, there was an increase in area of ​​53.1 percent where the industrial area in 2016 was 39,000 hectares and in 2021 it was 59,800 hectares.

“The number of industrial estates will continue to grow in the next few years. Currently, many industrial estate companies are in the construction phase. Until September 2021, there are 38 industrial estates under construction with a total land area of ​​14,750 hectares,” said the member of the PDI-Struggle Faction of the DPR RI.

In addition, Dony continued, there are 27 industrial areas that have been defined in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and the area of ​​Industrial Estates is designated as a national strategic project (PSN). For this reason, PT PGN Tbk which is a Gas Subholding is required to encourage industrial competitiveness in order to grow the national economy and increase the use of national natural gas.

“PT PGN Tbk as a natural gas supplier must be able to provide and collaborate with Industrial Estates (KI) in providing environmentally friendly energy needs and supporting product competitiveness with natural gas efficiency. The collaboration with Industrial Estates is in line with the Ministry of Industry’s target of creating 156 Industrial Estates with a total land area of ​​65 thousand hectares,” said Dony.

Meanwhile, regarding the agenda for a specific working visit to North Sumatra Province this time, Dony explained that Commission VII DPR RI would like to obtain information on the implementation of business activities, development plans, problems faced, and the support needed by PT KIM as well as other activities. and plans for PT PGN Tbk to support activities in the Medan Industrial Estate.

“Through this specific working visit, it is hoped that it can support the government and partners of Commission VII DPR RI in overcoming the problems they face and bring information and data related to the work areas of Commission VII DPR RI to be followed up in carrying out their functions,” concluded the legislator for the North Sumatra II electoral district.
