Police Worried About ‘Jokowi End Game’ Demo Adding COVID-19 Cases

The National Police urges the public not to be instigated by the invitation to a simultaneous demonstration on Saturday, July 24, 2021. The police are concerned that demonstrations have the potential to increase the transmission of the COVID-19 virus due to crowds.

The action, entitled ‘Jokowi End Game’, will be held together from the Glodok area, West Jakarta to the Presidential Palace. The invitation to the demonstration that went viral on social media demanded the rejection of PPKM and invited the public to destroy the palace oligarchy and its staff.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Pol Argo Yuwono, said that the appeal was conveyed because currently the number of COVID-19 cases was increasing. With demonstrations, the potential for creating crowds will occur, which will further increase the rate of growth of the corona virus.

“We hope that there will be no crowds due to the situation where the COVID-19 number is still high,” said Argo Yuwono when contacted, Friday (23/7/2021).

During the pandemic, the delivery of aspirations can be done online, such as in the form of audiences or focus group discussions. The police can act decisively if these activities disturb public order.

“If it is done, disturbing public order, yes, we will secure it,” said Argo.

The government’s policy in implementing Emergency PPKM has indeed led to mass actions in several places.

For example, in Jakarta, a demonstration against the Emergency PPKM took place in Cikini, Central Jakarta. Dozens of students carried the flag of the Islamic Student Association, on Monday (19/7). A total of 15 students were questioned by the police from the action.

A similar action also took place in Bandung on Wednesday (21/7), in front of the Bandung City Hall. The crowd consisted of students, students, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and traders. They considered that the implementation of the Emergency PPKM had no impact on controlling COVID-19, but instead made the people miserable.
