Strengthening 76 Years of Ties: President Prabowo and President Putin Hold Warm Meeting at the Kremlin

MOSCOW — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, officially held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, at the Grand Kremlin Palace on Monday (April 13, 2026). The meeting, held in the President’s private study, was characterized by a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the deep personal and diplomatic rapport between the two world leaders.

In his opening remarks, President Putin expressed his profound appreciation for President Prabowo’s visit to Moscow. “First of all, let me express my most sincere gratitude to Your Excellency for accepting our invitation and visiting Moscow,” Putin stated. Echoing this sentiment, President Prabowo thanked his counterpart for the exceptional hospitality despite President Putin’s demanding schedule.

Discussing Strategic Issues and Geoeconomics

This meeting holds significant weight as diplomatic relations between the two nations have remained steadfast for over seven decades since 1950. For Indonesia, Russia is a strategic partner with a major geopolitical role. Conversely, Indonesia is viewed as a key partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly within the scope of ASEAN.

The two Heads of State discussed various opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation, ranging from economic strengthening to regional stability. Following the formal discussions, the agenda proceeded with a private tête-à-tête session held over a luncheon in the Blue Hall of the Kremlin Palace.

A Symbol of Active Global Engagement

The meeting at the Kremlin not only strengthens the bonds between the two nations but also reaffirms Indonesia’s active role in “independent and active” global diplomacy. Based on the principles of mutual respect, the Indonesia-Russia strategic partnership is expected to continue fostering prosperity and stability at both regional and global levels.

President Prabowo’s presence in Moscow marks a new milestone in renewing the direction of cooperation, ensuring more tangible results for the national interests of both countries in the future.
