Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto met PM Keir Starmer. They met in London on Tuesday (20/01/2026). The meeting took place at Lancaster House. Both leaders agreed on a new partnership. Prabowo said the UK is a vital partner for Indonesia.

The UK has great technology. They also have a very strong financial sector. “We view the UK, England, as a partner that can participate greatly in our economy. They have technology. They have very strong finance. They are interested in investing in Indonesia,” Prabowo stated.

Focus on Maritime and Technology Transfer

This deal brings many benefits to Indonesia. We will get technology from the UK. Prabowo believes the deal helps both countries. “So I think this partnership will be very beneficial for both parties,” he added.

The UK will help our maritime sector. They will help build 1,500 fishing boats. They will also improve fishing villages. This plan aims to help our fishermen. It will make their lives better.

Improving Protein Intake for the People

Maritime growth is very strategic for us. Prabowo wants to speed up the economy. “This is very strategic for us. This will greatly accelerate our growth and economic progress, especially in the maritime field,” he said.

The President also talked about protein. Many Indonesians lack enough protein. “I remind you that three-quarters of our homeland is sea. The protein consumption of our people is still too low. We want to improve it for the better,” he said.

Four Main Pillars of the Deal

This partnership has four main goals. The first goal is economic growth. The second goal is green energy. The third goal is defense and security. The fourth goal is social development.

This deal follows a meeting in 2024. Both countries want a closer bond. The bond must be sustainable. Indonesia and the UK are now global partners.
