Jakarta – The Government of the Republic of Indonesia commemorated the 117th National Awakening Day (Hari Kebangkitan Nasional/Harkitnas) on Monday, May 20, 2025, under the theme “Rise for a Golden Indonesia.” This year’s commemoration serves as a momentum to reinforce the spirit of unity, innovation, and collaboration toward a more advanced and prosperous nation.

The national ceremony was held at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) office in Central Jakarta, with Minister Budi Arie Setiadi acting as the ceremonial inspector. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, public figures, and youth representatives.

In his speech, Minister Budi Arie emphasized that the spirit of national awakening must be preserved, especially amid global dynamics and modern challenges. He stated that Indonesia holds great potential to become a developed country if its people stay united and move forward together.

“National Awakening Day is not just a historical commemoration, but also a call to rise as a strong, independent, and competitive nation in the digital era,” said Budi Arie.

The celebration was also observed simultaneously across the country through flag ceremonies, national discourse forums, and community service activities. In schools and educational institutions, Harkitnas was marked as a time to reflect on the nation’s historical struggle and to highlight the crucial role of youth in nation-building.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo, in his official statement, said that Harkitnas serves as a reminder of the importance of cross-sector collaboration to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

“Today’s national awakening is no longer about taking up arms, but about uniting to build human capital, boost innovation, and create as many job opportunities as possible,” the President stated in a video message broadcast by the Presidential Palace.

National Awakening Day is observed annually on May 20 to commemorate the founding of Boedi Oetomo in 1908, a pivotal organization that symbolized the rise of national consciousness in Indonesia. Today, that spirit lives on through the works, innovations, and real contributions of the younger generation.
