JIS Revamp Will Complete Within 3 Months

IDNAround  – The Public Works and Housing or PUPR Ministry targeted the renovation of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) to be completed within three months to be proposed to FIFA for the 2023 U-17 World Cup.

“We have started planning for the renovation today. Three months is not a long time,” a spokesperson for the PUPR Ministry, Endra S Atmawidjadja, said as quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Endra explained that JIS will later be assessed by FIFA whether it is proper to host the international football match. The Building Safety Committee (KKBG) will also inspect the stadium once the revamp completes.

According to him, JIS needs improvement in several aspects, especially the field grass, public access, parking areas, and facilities outside the stadium such as a train station, toll off-ramp areas, and the pedestrian bridge from Ancol.

“We have a benchmark of FIFA standard stadium at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) and I think we are also considering input from experts who have been helping us in preparing stadium standards for international events, such as the U-17 World Cup,” he said.

Nevertheless, Endra said all decisions regarding the determination of JIS or other stadiums for the U-17 World Cup will ultimately be determined by FIFA.

“We only offer stadiums and FIFA will decide which will be used. We are striving to revamp JIS in these three months to be of the same standard as the stadiums that we will propose to FIFA,” Endra added.

During his visit to JIS on Tuesday, July 4, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono estimated that repairing the grass in JIS’ main fields would cost around Rp6 billion. The PUPR Ministry will allot the budget along with that for the construction of the pedestrian bridge.

The construction of the access or ramp off of the Harbor Road (HBR) toll would be carried out by Jasa Marga with the support of the PUPR Ministry. The Jakarta Provincial Government, Basuki said, is financing the construction of the pedestrian bridge from the Commuter Line or KRL station near JIS and the JIS east gate.

Meanwhile, state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia would build the train station, and Jakarta-owned bus operator TransJakarta would help manage the shuttle bus in JIS area.
