BMKG: Thunderstorm Threat Looms Over Jakarta Greater Area Today

IDNAround – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) released a weather forecast for Jakarta and its vicinity regions which noted that cool, rainy weather will stay today, February 23.

Quoted from its official page, there was a likelihood of light rain in West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and North Jakarta, moderate rain in South Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, and thunderstorms in East Jakarta in the morning.

“Be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in West Jakarta and South Jakarta in the afternoon, as well as in West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and Thousand Islands,” the warning was issued via the agency’s page on Thursday, February 23.

In the afternoon, South Jakarta and East Jakarta were expected to experience light rain. Meanwhile, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands will be covered in thick cloudy skies.

As for tonight’s weather, all the capital areas have the potential to be wet by rain with South Jakarta possibly expecting thunderstorms.

The rain was forecasted to continue until Friday morning. Thunderstorms might hit the Thousand Islands in the early hours of Friday, while the rest of Jakarta was predicted to see light rain.

Additionally, BMKG also issued an early warning of potential moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds for Jakarta’s surrounding regions, namely Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang.
