IDNAround– The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) ensures that the national production of onions and chilies is sufficient to meet the needs of the entire community. One of these efforts is the Title of Onions and Cheap Chilies at Toko Tani Indonesia Center, Jakarta, on Sunday (June 19, 2022).
Director General of Horticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture Prihasto Setyanto said that the Chili and Onion Degree movement is the result of a harvest from the Food Estate (Food Buffer Area). A total of 15 tons of shallots and 1.2 tons of chili were prepared in the agenda.
“This time, in addition to selling cheap food, we also distributed chili seeds to the community with polybags. This is so that people can plant in their yards,” he explained.
Holding Chili Seed Facilitation Program
He continued, in the 2022 State Budget activities, the Ministry of Agriculture will also hold a Chili Seed Facilitation Program which is prepared massively for an area of 1,600 hectares (ha). This is done in order to be able to become price stability in the field.
“The expansion of 1,600 hectares will be the proposed areas. So the chili production centers that are currently starting to decline, they propose to the Ministry of Agriculture, we will follow up later,” said Prihasto.
Maintain The Surge in Food Prices
He added that the Ministry of Agriculture is trying to maintain the surge in food prices, especially onions and chilies. Especially on the eve of Eid al-Adha.
“We’re trying to keep it from getting too high,” he said. Even so, he revealed, maintaining the stability of commodity prices in the market is actually the task of other ministries, but the Ministry of Agriculture admitted that it was ready to cooperate.
