Ministry of PUPR Performs Flood Emergency Response in Serang City

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continued various flood emergency response efforts in Serang City in early March 2022 due to the high intensity of rainfall that has occurred since Monday night (February 28, 2022).

Rozali Indra Saputra, Head of the Banten Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) at the PUPR Ministry, said his party was continuing to update the data with the Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Serang City BPBD.

“Regarding the need for basic facilities and infrastructure, the Banten BPPW Emergency Response Task Force has currently sent assistance in the form of two clean water tank cars, two public hydrants, one toilet car for public kitchens at the Juang Alun-alun Building, Serang city, two tank cars. Clean water and three hydrant units for refugee posts at BPBD Serang City, Kasemen sub-district, and one rubber boat that is on standby for further evacuations,” said Rozali in a written statement, Thursday (3/3).

The Ministry of PUPR will continue to coordinate with the local government to add emergency equipment/equipment as needed.

Meanwhile, the Central River Basin (BBWS) Cidanau Ciujung Cidurian, Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of PUPR, ensures that the Sindangheula Dam in Pabuaran District, Serang Regency remains safe and helps reduce the overflow of the two-thirds downstream of the Cibanten River to Serang City.

“We have assigned personnel to closely monitor the condition of the dam from time to time. Currently, the dam is in a stable and safe condition and is able to reduce the overflow of the downstream two-thirds of West Bandeng. The information circulating about the collapse of the Sindangheula dam is not true,” said Ketut Jayada, Head of BBWS Cidanau Ciujung Cidurian.

“When it rains heavily since Monday (February 28, 2022) night, the water level of the dam is full or as high as possible, so the dam cannot accommodate the incoming water discharge, said Ketut.

“To anticipate further flooding, the dam capacity will be reduced by 20-25% of the reservoir capacity, and the reservoir will be fully filled in April 2022 during the dry season,” said Ketut.
