Police Chief Asks Staff to Go to the Field to Hear Community Aspirations

The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, gave briefings at the Lampung Regional Police regarding the security and public order situation (sitkamtibmas), the handling of COVID-19 to the matter of the precise transformation of the Police.

On that occasion, Sigit stressed, all police personnel must be willing to go to the field, in order to absorb the aspirations and hopes as well as the will of the community. By hearing directly the wishes of the residents, it can be used as an evaluation material or reference to realize the Bhayangkara Corps which is increasingly trusted and loved by the residents.

“Come to the community to hear what they want. If necessary, the community will gather at the Polsek, Polres, and Polda levels. So know what to improve. There will be trust from the community,” said Sigit in his briefing at the Lampung Police, Tuesday (11/1/2022).

In this case, the instructions and directions given should not only be carried out by the Lampung Regional Police. Instead, all Polda and police personnel everywhere must do this.

In order to further increase public trust, the former Banten Police Chief emphasized that public services must continue to be improved to be much better. Sigit does not want to hear about services that do not meet the expectations of the community.

Sigit said, in the spirit of the Precise Police, there should be no difference in service to the community, carried out quickly, friendly and humanely. That way, said Sigit, the police will get prayers and appreciation from the residents, which will have an impact on the police organization as a whole.

“Quickly serve complaints. So that people know we are responding to what they complain about. Check if it is running or not. Because it’s not easy. It’s easy to say but difficult to implement,” said the former Police Chief of Criminal Investigation Unit.

All of these efforts, according to Sigit, must be guided by a person who has a strong leadership spirit and strict system supervision to avoid irregularities by police officers who do not carry out their duties according to the rules.

“This requires a leadership, strict monitoring system. We don’t want our members to have worked hard all this time and then there are problems just because we don’t provide guidance. So that the wrong way is affected by the wrong environment and continues to be a victim. Moreover, the violations were carried out together and in an organized manner,” said Sigit.

Still related to the strategy to create a Police that is expected to be close and loved by the community, according to Sigit, the spirit towards a Precise Police can be done by creating a culture to start doing good from small things every day, both at the lowest level to the highest level.

“Professionalism if it is not supported by proper ethics will result in violations and abuse of authority. This has a dangerous impact on the police. Make repairs, if unable to clean and evaluate. Because many of our members are ready to work and don’t want our institutions to be damaged by people who cannot understand the expectations of the organization and society,” said Sigit.

Sigit said, in today’s era like it or not, the Police must make improvements and changes to be even better. For now, Sigit said, the bad culture so far must be abolished by replacing habits that are much more positive.

“We are fixing why members commit violations, whether it is related to individual factors, namely weak spiritual understanding, negative community influences, unable to adapt to existing conditions and lifestyles that are not in accordance with the organizational culture of the Police or from organizational factors, namely weak regulations, lack of literacy insight, lack of facilities and infrastructure. Culture that must be repaired because the old heritage may not be suitable. It’s no longer a subordinate serving the leadership,” said Sigit.

Regarding the handling and control of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Sigit expressed his appreciation to all police officers who are tireless at being at the forefront in this regard. Even so, Sigit still reminded him not to be negligent and careless, especially now that the Covid-19 variant, Omicron, has entered Indonesia.

“What we have done so far is not the final achievement, now Omicron has entered Indonesia. Omicron is five times faster, although the fatality rate is not as high as the Delta variant,” said Sigit.

Therefore, Sigit requested that the police personnel continue to synergize with all stakeholders to accelerate the acceleration of vaccination, especially for the elderly (elderly) and children.

“The steps to complete vaccination in several places are still not optimal. Second, to anticipate, we prepare referral hospitals and medicines. At this time, while there is still time to re-check its readiness. Strengthening of inspections, especially at crossings. Pick up the ball so that our brothers and sisters have actually been vaccinated, because if this increase can’t be controlled, it could become a third wave,” explained Sigit.

Sigit also reminded about the booster vaccine policy. He hoped that this should be used as an opportunity to strengthen or increase immunity to the dangers of Covid-19 for the community.

In his briefing, Sigit also emphasized the issue of strengthening public communication strategies, being responsive to natural disaster events, anticipating social conflicts, conventional crime phenomena, preparing for elections, guarding the investment climate and strengthening the synergy between the military dan the police.
