Preventing Omicron Transmission, National Police Chief Urges People to Avoid New Year’s Crowds

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked to accelerate the achievement of the 70% vaccination target for all regions as announced by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) that the current Covid-19 variant, Omicron, has entered Indonesia.

He emphasized that the acceleration of vaccination must be implemented immediately, especially for the elderly (elderly) and adolescents.

“We must continue to accelerate the acceleration of vaccination. Because we now know that of the new variant of Omicron, as previously mentioned, there are 48 people on display. Tracking and testing is done as the affected person has escaped quarantine. This is a concern for all of us,” he told the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor Regency, West Java, Tuesday (28/12).

“For areas where the vaccine results are still not optimal. Hurry up,” he added.

Sigit explained that this was also a form of preparation and anticipation for the 2022 New Year. Looking back at 2021, the year-end momentum has the potential to increase mobility and crowds.

In this regard, he appealed to the public to avoid or not congregate. Because, it is feared that there will be a spike in Covid-19 like what happened in the previous year.

“We are currently nearing the end of the year. There will be potential for community mobility and potential crowds at the end of the year which is usual. On this occasion it is best to avoid it and carry out what is stipulated in the Circular of the Minister of Home Affairs. So follow. Avoid crowds because we don’t want transmission of contagion to occur when there is a crowd,” explained Sigit.

He explained that vaccine injections increase people’s immunity and reduce the fatality and spread of the Covid-19 virus, including Omicron.

Sigit invites all residents to come to the vaccination booths that have been provided by the TNI-Polri and the local government (Pemda).

“With the vaccine that is in the body, the effects or fatalities can be overcome. But those who haven’t been vaccinated, please be vigilant and get vaccinated immediately. We have opened outlets throughout the Regional Government, TNI, Polri have opened outlets. Those who haven’t been vaccinated, please get vaccinated immediately so that we are ready to face the new variant of Omicron,”
