On New Year’s Eve, the National Police Chief requests that Polda close the Square

Jakarta – The National Police appealed to the Regional Government (Pemda) to close the square on New Year’s Eve. This is to prevent the spread of Covid-19, which is currently starting to be handled properly.

This was conveyed by the National Police Chief General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, which was read by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan during the rally for the 2021 Lilin Jaya Operation at the Polda Metro Jaya Ditlantas Field, Thursday (12/23/2021).

In the mandate, Listyo said that currently the handling of Covid-19 is called the best in Southeast Asia. However, in the midst of these improvements, the Omicron type of Covid-19 virus began to enter Indonesia.

We need vigilance and all parties to prevent the Covid-19 explosion like the turn of the new year 2020. For example, by limiting people’s mobility on New Year’s Eve and closing a number of squares in Indonesia.

“Close the square and eliminate all forms of community activities on New Year’s Eve, prioritizing New Year’s celebrations at home or with family,” said Anies reading the message from the National Police Chief.

In addition, the National Police Chief also requested that the use of the Pedulilindungi application in every activity be increased. If there are people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19, they must be directed to the nearest vaccine outlets.

It is predicted that during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in 2022 there will be 11 million people who carry out mobility. So in the candlelight operation in 2021, the government will deploy joint personnel consisting of the TNI, Polri, and local government.

The candle operation in 2021 will be carried out for 10 days from December 23, 2021 to January 2, 2022. The focus of security is spread across 54,959 objects throughout Indonesia, including churches, tourist attractions, shopping centers, objects for New Year celebrations, terminals, ports, and stations.

The personnel strength will be placed at 19,464 security posts and 1,082 service posts.

“In carrying out this operation, it involved 177,212 joint security personnel consisting of 103 thousand Polri, 19 thousand TNI, and 55 thousand personnel from related agencies,” he concluded.
