National Police Chief Asks to Tighten Quarantine for International Travelers

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reminded the importance of strict supervision of health protocols (prokes) for international travellers (PPI). The National Police Chief emphasized that PPIs entering Indonesia must quarantine for 10 days.

The four-star police general warned that there would be strict sanctions for violating the quarantine period for these PPIs. “International travelers must be required to undergo quarantine for 10 days,” said Sigit in a press release received by reporters in Jakarta, Friday (12/24).

This was said by the National Police Chief when visiting Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta), together with the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Sadikin, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Karya Sumadi, and the Head of BNPB Suharyanto, on Friday (24/12). The National Police Chief, together with other state officials, checked the readiness of the officers, and the Covid-19 response services, ahead of the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays.

Sigit said, regarding PPI entering Indonesia via Soetta Airport, there will be 14 stages. The stages, starting from the inspection process, up to mandatory quarantine for 10 days. Quarantine will be carried out centrally in hotels and guesthouses.

According to Sigit, the mandatory quarantine for these PPIs is not without reason. According to him, this is an effort by the government to prevent the growth rate of Covid-19, as well as the entry of a new variant of Omicron to Indonesia.

“This is also to prevent a spike in active cases of the corona virus in the country, after the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) celebrations,” said Sigit.
