Law Enforcers Now Can’t Immediately Call Members of the TNI, Polri: Equality Before the Law

JAKARTA – The National Police Headquarters has responded to the rule that law enforcement officers can no longer directly summon members of the TNI who face a case.

The regulation is based on the TNI Commander’s Telegram Letter Number ST/1221/2021 regarding the procedure for summoning TNI soldiers by law enforcement officers.

The Head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, said that his party respected the telegram letter.

On the other hand, law enforcement carried out by Polri investigators is in accordance with applicable procedures.

“In principle, investigators must comply with regulations governing law enforcement procedures and respect the constitutional rights of every citizen.”

“The principle of equality before the law applies,” said Dedi when confirmed, Tuesday (11/23/2021).

He ensured that the police’s performance would not be disturbed by the issuance of the telegram.

The Police will also adjust to the latest TNI internal regulations.

“Yes, according to existing and latest procedures,” he said.
