31 Civil Servants Have Been Terrorism Suspects Since 2010

The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) stated that since 2010 at least 31 Civil Servants (PNS) have been arrested for allegedly being exposed to terrorism. The 31 civil servants are actively involved in terrorist networks.

“Data since 2010, there are 31 civil servants who have been designated as terrorism suspects,” said the Director of Prevention of the BNPT RI, Brigadier General Ahmad Nurwakhid when contacted, Jakarta, Friday (11/5/2021).

According to Nurwakhid, the 31 terrorist suspects are parties who have directly joined the terrorist network so that they are active in their activities. Be it planning, training, fundraising, other things related to the organization.

However, he said, the issue of terrorism among civil servants needs to be a separate note. According to him, the index of potential for radicalism among civil servants reached 19.4% in 2019.

“(31 suspects) are included in fulfilling the elements of a criminal act of terrorism so that arrests can be made before committing acts of terror which are often referred to as preventive justice efforts or preventive strikes to prevent before committing acts of terror,” explained Nurwakhid.

He asked that the recruitment process as civil servants be tightened so as not to be infiltrated by ideas that are contrary to the ideology of the state. BNPT, he said, asked related ministries or institutions to intensify communication and coordination to prevent the spread of terrorism among civil servants.

He also said that the strengthening of this coordination was based on Presidential Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning Action Plans for Countering and Preventing Extremism or Violent-based Radicalism Leading to Terrorism.

“BNPT is a coordinating function in coordinating with related Ministries/Institutions as well as local governments as well as all elements of the nation’s and state’s society to carry out synergy in preventing or overcoming radicalism and terrorism,” said Nurwakhid.

Previously, the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police arrested a suspected terrorist with the initials DRS in Lampung. The member of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) is known to work as a Principal (Kepsek) at one of the State Elementary Schools (SDN) Lampung.
