Tighten up and secure the rugby final between Papua and Jakarta

Jayapura – Ahead of the final match of the men’s 7S rugby at the XX National Sports Week (PON) between the Papua team and the DKI Jakarta team, security around the venue was tightened or maximized.

“We are maximizing security. As hosts, we must use persuasive and humane methods,” said Colonel Endra, Head of the Silas Papare Airbase Operations Service in Jayapura, Thursday.

After the women’s 7S rugby match between DKI Jakarta and the host, which ended in chaos, security at the rugby venue at the 7S Rugby Field of the Indonesian Air Force (AU) was tightened.

Overall, he said that the Indonesian Air Force had around 100 personnel deployed in several venues, namely softball, baseball and rugby. The three sports were competed in the Indonesian Air Force complex.

“On average the security here is safe because it is located in the Indonesian Air Force complex,” said Colonel Endra.

He said the presence of TNI personnel at the Rugby 7S venue was to help colleagues from the police if there was an escalation in the field. However, if this does not happen then the responsibility for security rests with the police.

“This is a sporting mission. If there is an escalation in the field, we will help the police,” he said.
